Helicopter and boat patrol were searching the Corrib and the bay for nearly two hours on the 7th of December after an emergency call indicating someone had jumped from O’Brien’s bridge. The call was made at approximately nine thirty; the Gardai and some volunteers started searching the river immediately. The searched slowed down at around eleven, an hour an a half after the first alert. “We won’t give up looking if someone did jump in the river. We can’t take the risk. Nobody would survive very long in this” said one of the Gardai on duty that night.
